William J. White

William J. (Whizzer) White, peacefully, at 92, of Pittsburgh on July 29, 2022. Preceded in death by his loving wife Cecilia and son Billy. Loving father of Jan (Frank) Schmittlein, Jean Swanson, and Connie (Tony) Diulus. Proud grandfather of Erin, Alexandra, Katelyn, Sabrina, William, Joseph, Anthony, Michael, Christopher, Ian and great grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. Brother of the late James White (Betty).  Beloved by so many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. 

Bill served in the ARMY proudly as Military Police and SGT of firearms training unit.  Upon returning home he continued to serve the City of Pittsburgh as a member of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for 37 years, serving from patrolman to Detective in several units and retiring as Detective First Grade.

Fifty + year member of the FOP and recipient of the prestigious Pat McNamara award in 2011. An active leading member and past Commander of several divisions of the American Legion. Served as President of the PNA Lodge 1243 for 35+ years. Involved proudly with the Police Marching Band, softball team and FOP bowling league. Co-Founder of the Family Picnic that just celebrated its 69th year. 

Dad was a cheerleader, coach and fan for all his grandchildren’s activities, attending football, baseball, softball, basketball and dek hockey games, wrestling and dance competitions. He was an avid Pittsburgh Sports team fan. He most enjoyed spending his time with his family, dancing cheek to cheek with Cill, and helping anyone that needed a hand.
