Age 91, of Potomac, Maryland, on February 13, 2023.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on January 31, 1932, to Josephine (Kishman) and William Earl Lindsay.
Captain Lindsay, United States Navy, Retired, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, graduated from Susquehanna Township High School and later the Pennsylvania State University in 1953. After receiving a commission in the Supply Corps from the Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island, he attended the Navy Supply Corps School, Bayonne, New Jersey, in 1954. He received a Master of Science degree in Government Administration from George Washington University in 1965 and received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Public Administration from American University in 1972. Captain Lindsay was also a graduate of the U.S. Navy Transportation School, the Navy Exchange Management School, and the Naval War College. During his thirty years of service in the Navy he served in the Supply Corps in numerous and challenging positions and locations. Most important to him was his service on the USS Providence during the Vietnam War and his time as Commanding Officer at the Naval Supply Center Puget Sound.
After his retirement from the Navy he was employed by American Management Systems, Inc. as an officer in that company. In this capacity, he worked primarily on Navy ship repair projects. He was last employed by the Logistic Management Institute as a consultant working on Army logistic projects and E-commerce applications. He later earned a U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license and managed his own sailboat management company.
He is survived by his wonderful and giving partner of 34 years, Christine Luoto Gallo. He is also survived by his three children Becky (John) Surma, Suze Lindsay and Dr. Fred Lindsay, and his previous partner and mother of the children, Sara Lindsay. He is predeceased by Suze’s husband, Kent McLaughlin. He is survived by his grandchildren Brendan, Jack and Eric Surma, Josie, Claire and Ian Lindsay and Megan Wright and Matt McLaughlin. His nephews James Hilton and Bill Hilton, sons of his late sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Lindsay (James) Hilton, also survive him.
Family and friends are welcome Monday, February 27, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. in WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220. Interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies following the service.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Pennsylvania State University College of Health and Human Development, School of Hospitality Management.
