William Thomas Keegan

March 15, 1943 — December 22, 2017

William T. Keegan passed away on Friday, December 22nd at age 74. Born on March 15, 1943 in Bronx, NY, Bill was one of six children of Frank and Kathryn (Noonan) Keegan. Bill married Sue A. Rothhar in 1964. They were married for over 50 years and were especially devoted to each other. He was the proud father of five children, Laura (Dave) Ellingwood, Anne (Mark) Flaherty, Carrie (Jim) Clement, Katie (Rob, d.2013) Roos and the late Bill Keegan Jr. He was the grandfather to seven grandchildren, Madison, Jack, Megan, Ray, Frank, Deirdre and Kayla.
A 1960 graduate of Bergen Catholic HS in Oradell NJ. He was a gifted athlete receiving recognition and honors and was named to All–County and All-State Teams both in both football and basketball. He attended Ohio State University, received a B.S. degree from University of Dayton and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
Bill worked to put himself through school with a variety of jobs from managing charter flights for University of Dayton students from the New York/New Jersey area to delivering milk on Cape Cod during summer breaks.
He had a diverse career in business with 22 years at U.S Steel, starting in sales and marketing and later held positions as Director of Corporate Strategic Planning and Managing Director Specialty Steel Division. Then, as Director of Asset Redeployment he managed and negotiated the sale of 18 different business units raising $1.3 billion in capital. With downsizing of U.S. Steel continuing, Bill moved on to a
Private Investment Company to pursue growth through acquisitions. He then negotiated the purchase and participated in the management of three steel service centers and four heat treating companies. Always the entrepreneur, in 1993, Bill bought Process Development and Control Inc., an industrial valve manufacturing company in Coraopolis, PA. He successfully managed its progress for 22 years, selling the business in 2015. He was very proud that the buyer retained all his employees, facilities and operating assets.
While a sales representative for U.S. Steel and a resident of Lima, OH he was elected to the City Council and served two terms. For 18 years, he managed the 650 acre grain farm of his wife's family near Bellefontaine, OH. He also served for 30 years on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Western PA.
Bill was a member of the Duquesne Club, St. Clair Country Club (both in Pittsburgh, PA) and La Playa Golf and Beach Club in Naples, Florida. Bill and his wife Sue were charter members of the Art Society of the Duquesne Club.
Bill was an active and devoted member of his church having served as a Church Lector, President of the Parish Council in Cleveland, OH as well as as a Curcillo organizer and facilitator (DeColores). He was an active member of the La Playa Men's Golf Fellowship in Naples, Florida.
In addition to a great pride in his family and his love of sports Bill cherished his friendships with neighbors and friends in
Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida and especially his Bergen Catholic High School buddies and "The Naples Golf Guys".
In addition to his winning smile and wry sense of humor, Bill will be remembered for his motivation to help others, his positive attitude and his encouragement of others to do their best. He was admired, loved and well-respected and touched the lives of many in his lifetime. Bill's devotion to his family, community and church are examples for us all.
