Thomas Michael Meisner Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 27, 1946. During his elementary school years, his family moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where he spent much of his childhood and later graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School. He went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh, earning three degrees (culminating in a PhD in 1978), and maintaining a lifelong connection to the University.
Tom devoted his professional life to public education, beginning his career as a teacher, later serving as a middle school principal, and ultimately as a school administrator. He believed deeply in the value of education and approached his work with integrity, patience, and genuine care for students, families and colleagues.
Following retirement, Tom continued his love of learning and service as a docent at Heinz Memorial Chapel, where he gave tours and coordinated weddings. He took pride in welcoming visitors, sharing the chapel’s history and beauty, and helping couples celebrate one of the most meaningful days of their lives. Teaching and connecting with others remained an important part of his life long after he left the classroom.
Tom found great enjoyment in attending concerts, golfing, traveling, and attending Pitt football and basketball games. Whether listening to music, spending time on the course, cheering on Pitt, or exploring new places, he embraced life’s experiences with appreciation and warmth.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine (Ejzak); his brother Warren Meisner (Linda); and his sister Beverly Gelety (Steve). He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Meisner. Tom will be remembered for his kindness, quiet humor, and the lasting connections he made with those around him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Tom’s memory.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Whitetail Springs Memory Care and Commonwealth Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
