Steven Wray Trettel fell asleep June 11, 2023, and is awaiting the Lord’s return. Steve was a man who loved God and his Word. He was born in Washington, PA in 1962. From a young age he was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ by his parents, William Berthold Trettel and mother, Anna Diehl Trettel.
Steve was a 1980 graduate of Trinity High School where he was a member of the marching band and jazz ensemble. Steve also attended and graduated from Ohio University in Athens with a degree in Percussion Performance. Steve was initially introduced to home Bible fellowships while attending Ohio University.
After graduation, he moved to Pittsburgh where he started, and oversaw, several home Bible fellowships in Pittsburgh. He was a founding member of Pittsburgh Bible Teaching Fellowship, participating in nearly every service opportunity he could, in addition to being a member of the church’s leadership. Always ready to help and serve others, he was a very generous man who strove to live up to the example set by his Lord, Jesus Christ.
Steve was a loving and faithful husband to his wife of 25 years, Patti, to whom he spoke the gospel when they first met. He established his household in accordance with God’s Word, striving to honor his wife like Christ honors His church. Together, Steve and Patti raised their son Stevie with love and kindness instilling a love for the Lord and the gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to this, as head of the household, Steve arranged the finances enabling Patti to be a stay-at-home mother and homeschool Stevie in a quality curriculum that was based on God’s Word.
Steve was an accomplished musician who is well known throughout the Pittsburgh musical community. He played with many wonderful musicians throughout his life. With every gig he had, he gave God the glory for allowing him to express his art and perform with such gifted people.
He is survived by his wife, Patti, and son, Steve, in addition to his sister Catherine Louis Fischer (later Rev. Roger Fischer) and their 3 children Roger (Marcia), Steven (Heather), and Katy (John Herold) and as well as sister, Elaine Fischer (Bruce) and their children Heidi and Joe.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s name to Pittsburgh Bible Teaching Fellowship, 1628 Pembroke Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15243. A private memorial service is planned.
Steve lived his life fully believing God’s word concerning the hope to come and is sleeping in Christ. He awaits the return of his Lord. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800) Scott Twp.
