Stephen P. Mackin Sr.

Stephen Patrick Mackin, of Thornburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the age of 63. He suffered a heart attack, leaving the hearts of the many who loved him irreparably broken.

Stephen was born on November 7, 1960, raised and chose to be a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, PA, where he was most at ease among the family, friends, and places that defined him, though,he also loved to get away to the beach  at Stone Harbor, New Jersey or anywhere he could enjoy spending time with his loving wife he now leaves behind, Ruth (Sciulli).

Stephen’s legacy is his close-knit, kindhearted and blossoming family, which he and Ruthy nurtured over the course of their 35-year marriage.  Their children, Stephen (Samantha), Rita Mellott (Rick), and Jody Matesic (Aaron) in turn, brought the lights of their lives, Penelope, Emerson, Noah and A.J., into the Mackin fold.  Along with his doting new gaggle of grandchildren, Steve’s passions were his car, his dog, and his music.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Colleran) Mackin. Stephen is survived by his beloved siblings, John (Wendy), Jim (Kathy), Tom (Eileen), Tim (Colleen), Terry (Judy), and Maureen Hicks (Don), as well as his cherished extended Sciulli family and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Known to be a perfectionist and relentlessly hard worker, Stephen has been an indispensable operative and executive co-owner of Liberty Fuel & Supply Company in Carnegie, PA.  There he has worked for the past 42 years alongside his father, brothers, son, nephews and many dear friends.

A 1979 graduate of Bishop Canevin High School, in Crafton PA, Stephen remained close to the life-long friends he met while there.  All will miss his wry sense of humor, big heart, and unfailing loyalty.
