Sophie N. Farah, 91, of Mt Lebanon, PA, passed away in St Clair Hospital on May 9, 2023, after a short illness.
Sophie was born on April 22, 1932, to Helen and Namy Farah of Ambridge, PA. She was a graduate of Peabody High School. After graduation, she went into retail sales and became a lingerie buyer for Gimbels Department Store, a position that required many enjoyable business trips to New York City. Following that, Sophie went to work for Allendale Insurance Company, where she eventually became office manager.
Sophie was a devoted member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Oakland, where she served on many committees and, until recent years, managed the church bookstore. Any newcomer to the church was always greeted and made welcome by Sophie.
In addition to her expert sewing talent, she was an avid reader. Shortly before her retirement, she learned to play Bridge and became a very competitive player.
Sophie is survived by her sister Louise Hadad of Andover, Massachusetts and many loving nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews and her special godchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Mike, Ferrill and George, and sisters, Usma, Najla, Jennie and Emily.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at St George Orthodox Cathedral, 3400 Dawson Street, Pittsburgh, PA.
With respect to Sophie’s wishes there will no calling hours at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 10-11 at the church prior to the Funeral service.
Interment will be private.
