Sophia Plastiras Bridoux

January 3, 1925 — January 11, 2024

Atlanta, Georgia

Sophia Plastiras Bridoux—currently of Atlanta GA, and previously of Pittsburgh PA and Little Rock AR—passed away on January 11, 2024, just after her 99th birthday. She was the fourth of five children of the late Nicholas Plastiras and Annie Botsaris Plastiras, originally from Nafpaktos and Patras Greece, respectively, who immigrated to the United States before her birth, moved by the promise of new opportunity in America.

She is survived by her daughter, Constance Nagle (the late Patrick Nagle); grandson Christopher Nagle of Seattle and granddaughter Alexandra Nagle of New York; and brother George Plastiras (Kiki) of Little Rock. She is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and nephews, and seven great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Bridoux; brother Thomas Plaster (Fifi) of Nashville, TN; sister Athanasia Geanopulos (Clifford) of Pittsburgh, PA and brother Basil Plastiras (Athena) of San Francisco, CA

Sophia was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she was a graduate of Central High School and worked for many years for Sears in the credit department. Although she sustained an early childhood injury which would have sidelined most, Sophia never missed a beat! She was affable and exuded energy, and had friends across a wide spectrum and spanning wide geographies, likely drawn by her youthful and enthusiastic spirit. She and her family moved to Pittsburgh in the late 1960’s to be near her sister and family, with whom she was very close. Sophia and her husband Henry were the proprietors of The Doggery, later known as Hank’s Dog House, on West Liberty Ave for close to thirty years, where she was known affectionately as “Mrs. Henry” for generations of customers. She was an avid baker of traditional Greek pastries and was particularly known by family and friends for her signature koulouria. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh, continuing to volunteer at the annual Greek Festival well into her 90’s. She moved to Atlanta in 2018 to be closer to her daughter Constance following a series of health issues. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren, of whom she was especially proud. Sophia remained spirited to the end, and will be remembered fondly for her big heart and outgoing personality—and the warmth shared with so very many over nearly a century of life, forever beloved. Her family wishes to express profound thanks to those that cared for her both at home and at The FountainviewCenter.
