On Saturday, May 9, 2015. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on October 23, 1920, the son of the late Sidney and Betty Lenchner; beloved husband of 66 years to the late Audrey Lenchner; loving father of Mark (Rose) Lenchner of Franklin Park, Gary (Wallie) Lenchner of Naples, Florida and Jeffrey (Jill) Lenchner of Sewickley; brother of Ken (Linda) Lenchner of Detroit, MI; devoted "Pappy" of Amanda, Nick, David, Rachel, Aaron, Alex, and Sydnie; great-grandfather of Alden. Sigmund grew up in Squirrel Hill and attended Taylor Allderdice High School, and went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in 1942. He worked at US Steel Homestead Works in order to put himself through college. Immediately after graduation Sigmund enlisted in the United States Navy, and was placed in the US Navy Officer training school in Chicago, Naval Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, VA, and the Cargo School in Pearl Harbor. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant, and Officer in Charge of Mine Sweeper USS Starling in Indo China. Honorably discharged in 1946, and decorated with the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon and a personal Commendation from Admiral Halsey Commander of the South Pacific Fleet. He started Todays Home, Inc., with his beloved wife Audrey in 1953 in a desolated location at the time called McKnight Road. They grew the business to three locations with over 120,000 square feet of display space, which employed hundreds of individuals during his career and furnished thousands of Western Pennsylvania homes. He was an initial member of Wildwood Country Club, Westmoreland Country Club, Concordia Club, and Hamlet Country Club of Delray Beach, Florida. Sigmund lived his final 18 months in the capable and loving hands at Providence Point in the South Hills. He was a third generation member of Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill. Family will receive friends Wednesday 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp. Service will be 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Following the service family encourages attendance for a graveside service at Tree of Life Memorial Park (Franklin Park) with full Military honors.
