SHIRLEY HAVILAND POHL (MILLER)
Age 94, singer, actress, composer, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2025.
Born on September 21, 1931 to Aloysius Miller and Helen (Vensel) Miller. For over 35 years she produced theatre in the Pittsburgh area together with her husband, Jude Pohl until his death in 2015. They produced two of the longest running shows in Pittsburgh theatre history (Nunsense and Forever Plaid). Under the name Shirley Haviland, she performed with many local theatres including the C.L.O. and the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Once, in the role of Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, she performed before several members of the Von Trapp family.
Two of her original musical comedies (Temporarily Tartan and The Nun Before Christmas) were managed by a New York agency and were performed nationally. For 18 years, (1981-1999) she was one of the regular National Anthem singers for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Her greatest joy, however, was serving the Lord, singing her original music at many area churches as well as those in several other states. Shirley is now resting safely in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
All are welcome to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, January 10, 2026, 2 PM, Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, 1630 Greentree Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Interment private. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800.
