Ruth Ann (Fox) Macoy, of Mt. Lebanon, died February 16, 2025. She was born August 28, 1925, in Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of Gordon S. and Cecelia R. Fox. "You know, you entered the world with bells tinkling softly and joyfully," her mother wrote in a letter to "Ruthy," many years later. "That's the way I remember your coming that day in August, with the proud Shenendora aloft in the skies."
After living for several years in Zanesville, Ruth's family moved to a 160-acre farm in Adamsville, Ohio. Ruth graduated from Salem-Adams High School in 1943, and moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a clerk-typist for the federal Office of Scientific Research and Development. It was in Washington that she met Ens. Donald S. Macoy, USN. They were married November 6, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio.
Ruth, Donald and their three young sons moved to Hobart, Indiana, in 1954, after Mr. Macoy completed his naval service and went to work for U.S. Steel Corp. He was transferred to Pittsburgh in 1961. He and Ruth raised their sons in Mt. Lebanon, and lived in the same home for the remainder of their lives.
Ruth was a member of St. Thomas More Church in Bethel Park. Primarily a homemaker, she was a skilled bridge player and worked with her husband as a poll worker for many years. After Mr. Macoy retired from U.S. Steel in 1984 and took on consulting work overseas, Ruth traveled with him to Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Italy, and India.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 60 years; her sister, Alice; and three brothers, Gordon, John, and Thomas. She is survived by a brother, Roger P. Fox, of Stockport, Ohio; sons, Donald S. Macoy Jr. (Janna) of San Jose, California; Christopher Macoy, of Mt. Lebanon; and Steven Macoy (Elaine) of Fort Pierce, Florida; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday, August 28, 2025, at St. Thomas More Church, Resurrection Parish, 126 Fort Couch Road, Pittsburgh, 15241, followed by lunch. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 1:30 PM. Arrangements entrusted to FREYVOGEL-SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, Bethel Park, 412-835-1860.
