Russell J. Flaherty

     Age 90 of Duquesne Heights, passed peacefully on Monday, October 2nd 2023, born June 1st, 1933. Beloved son of the late Nellie Myrtle and Joseph Francis Flaherty. Loving brother of Gladys Flynn, Patricia Hoffman, Norman, Clifford, Robert Flaherty, and the late Myrtle L.

Devoted father of Edward (Nancy) of Colorado, Steven (Maureen) and Mark (Cynthia) of Pittsburgh, PA. Loving grandfather of Sean, Kevin, Amanda, Kelly, Dillon, and five great grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by wife Audrey (Planitzer) Flaherty, and dear friend of the late Martha Jones. 

Russell attended South Hills High School, was a member of the Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army, serving overseas 1954-1955. He retired from J&L-LTV Steel in 1983.

Russell enjoyed traveling and kept active in various organizations. He was a life member of Duquesne Maennerchor Club, South Hills Republican Club, The American Legion Post #0862. Russell was a life member and the past-Post Commander of VFW Post 5111.

Family and friends welcome Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 2-4, 6-8 pm at WM. SLATER & SONS INC. (412-381-3345) 301 Virginia Ave., Mt. Washington 15211, where a funeral service will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10 AM, immediately followed with Military Honors by VFW Post 5111. Burial to follow in Chartiers Cemetery.
