Rosalind Kent died January 8, 2019. She was 94. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Roz attended Hunter College in New York. She was first and foremost an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and great grandmother, who lived a life surrounded by family, friends, giving and receiving so much love. She was an accomplished woman in a quiet, dignified way.
Roz was a teacher of piano in her home and Sunday School at Temple Emanuel. She taught herself Russian and became a translator and an author. Her book, Reading the Russian Language: A Guide for Librarians and Other Professionals was published while she raised four children. She was a past president of the University of Pittsburgh Women's Club, past program director of the Jewish Community Center and she worked with Jewish Women's and Children's Services in Pittsburgh resettling Jewish immigrants.
Roz traveled the world with her husband Allen, University of Pittsburgh Information Science pioneer, until he retired in 1992. They moved to St. Pete Beach, FL, then returned to Pittsburgh in 2010. She spent her final two and a half years at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
She is survived by her four daughters, Merryl [Marc] Samuels of North Fayette, Jacqueline [Matt] Maryak of Swannanoa, NC, Emily [Paul] Yeager and Carolyn [Bill] Newcott both of Lewes, DE; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Allen Kent on May 1, 2014. She was the heart of our family.
Service and burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 11, 2019. The service and burial will be at the Mausoleum Chapel at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, 509 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
