Ronald L. “Arnold” Zegarelli
Age 89, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully with his immediate family present on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh to Italian immigrant parents Erasmontonio and Angelina Zegarelli, Ronald was married to his beloved wife, Dolores, for 68 years. He was the loving father of Gregg, (Jodi) Zegarelli and Ronda, (Larry), Zegarelli and cherished “Zman” to his granddaughters Bria, Ella and Anna. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his three brothers Louis, Martin and Robert.
Arnold lived a long celebrated life. He knew early on he wanted to get into the hair business. He soon convinced his brother Robert into joining him and they became well known throughout Pittsburgh as The Zegarelli Brothers. They travelled as platform artists for Clairol around the country educating hairstylists and winning many awards. Their expertise lead them to opening their advanced Coiffure Creation Academy where they educated many aspiring hairdressers. They established a large following at the Joseph Horne’s Salon in downtown Pittsburgh and were seen regularly on local and national news shows including Pittsburgh Today revealing the current trends in hair.
In 1981, Robert passed away suddenly and Arnold was left to carry on the Zegarelli brother’s legacy. As a way to assuage his grief, Arnold began studying karate and earned a blackbelt. This would add to his lifelong habit of disciplined exercise and nutrition.
After leaving Hornes, he went to work for Premier Salons continuing his craft and mentoring many stylists including his two protégés, Emilio and Gino. They went on to open Izzazu Salons and Arnold worked there well into his 80s. He received the Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame Award.
In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, reading on his deck with its beautiful view and traveling on many trips with his family. Arnold will be remembered as always sharing his positive attitude.
