Ronald L. Oakes

Age 91, of Scott Twp., passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024. Ron was born in Kossuth, PA to the late Walter V. and Bernice (Beals) Oakes. After graduating high school in Cranberry, PA, he was employed by Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Franklin, PA and Pennzoil Oil Co. in Oil City in the accounting depts. In 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Ila Grace Hondel. After serving 2 years in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, PA with honors. He was employed by PNC and retired in 1990 as Vice President in data processing. Ron and Ila have a son, Mark, born in 1963. Ron’s interests included fishing, skiing, hunting, and woodworking. 

Ron is survived by his wife with whom he shared 71 years of happiness, Ila; his loving son, Mark of Pittsburgh; his adored niece, Sabrina Johnson of Franklin, PA; his sister, Norma Saxton of Erie, PA; his sister-in-law, Carol Guth of Oil City; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held privately with interment in the columbarium at Mt. Lebanon Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Providence Point, 500 Providence Point Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15243, or to Mt. Lebanon Lutheran Church, 975 Washington Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
