Ron Jaye, was born in Buffalo, NY October 5, 1934. At age 86, Ronald "Jaye" Krauth passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and most importantly, Mary Jane, his beloved wife of close to 60 years. Proud Brother of Saralee (Krauth) Messenger of Scottsdale, AZ, step-brother of Arnie Halpern, Vermont. Son of the late Daniel and Sylvia Krauth of Buffalo, late sisters, Marlene Kulman and Toby Messinger. Ron is survived by his loving treasures, known as Pop-Pop to 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He also celebrated any and all occasions with dozens of nieces, nephews and in-laws he adored. Ron served in the Military Intelligence Branch, United States Army, during the Korean War. Ron "Jaye", a lifetime member of SAG-AFTRA, is best known as an anchor and talk show host who worked at WPXI-TV from 1965-2000, with a break in the 80's as the "Man-on-the-Move" at WTAE-Radio. At WIIC-TV (WPXI), Channel 11, Ron hosted the first call-in late night television talk show, "Hot Line" Pittsburgh After Dark. Ron began his broadcasting career in1958 as a disc jockey, spinning the discs in Buffalo, NY and later as an anchor in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also hosted a show with the great Jim Brown. Beginning with a move to Pittsburgh in 1965, Ronald Jaye Krauth lived a full life filled with family and friends in the 'Burgh. Although Ron was not born in the Steel City, he considered it his adopted "home town", he could rival any historian on the facts surrounding Pittsburgh and what makes his town tick. Ron loved attending sporting events and could be found on many sidelines and dugouts throughout the years, including the Steelers giant wins, Pitt football victories and Pirates World Series celebrations. Ron never met a stranger and was lucky to have more friends than he could count in a lifetime. His best memories always started with the love-of-his life Janie, golfing with his family, eating at the newests bistros and diners in Pittsburgh and spending holidays with his children and grandchildren. We will all miss his booming voice and his, um, strong point of view. His children will tell you his generous heart and his humor were his greatest gifts to family and friends. And, if you count yourself among that group, "469" is all you need to know! Friends welcome MONDAY 5-8pm, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd, Scott Twp 15220.
