Robert D. Shearer

Age 89, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023. Robert was the loving husband of 63 years of Sandra L. Shearer (Ventolo); beloved father of Pamela Shearer Andrews, Lori Shearer (Brian Haubenstock), Susan Shearer Vivirito (Richard), and Robert Shearer (Erica); adoring grandfather of Ryan, Tyler, and Katherine Andrews, Zachary Haubenstock, Lauren and Olivia Vivirito, and Austin (Stephanie), Matthew, Brandon, and Jack Shearer. He was predeceased by his siblings, Norman and Evelyn Shearer.

Robert was raised in East Liberty and a graduate of Peabody High School. He was a 4-sport star and earned All-City honors in football and baseball and was a member of Peabody’s state championship volleyball team and the National Honors Society. Robert also graduated with high honors from the University of Pittsburgh. He was Langley High School’s baseball coach for 31 years and coached football, basketball, soccer, and swimming. Robert also coached Duquesne University baseball for two years. His Langley baseball teams won 14 City League section titles and five City League championships; and was also the 1982 PIAA Title game runner-up. Robert was active in teaching, coaching, and community organizations. He was a baseball and softball umpire and was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Hall of Fame as a coach in the 2016 class. Robert proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War Era.

Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 12 PM in St. Bernard Church, St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 311 Washington Road. Interment to follow at 2 PM in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
