Age 93, of Scott Township, was born to Jack and Stella David of Crafton/Ingram and passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Robert “Bob” attended Dormont High School where he was a gymnast, and much to the dismay of his mother, had an early desire to run away and join the traveling circus after graduation. Thankfully, that did not happen, but he did join the U.S. Army where he served in the Marshall Islands in the Eniwetok Atomic Testing area during the Korean War.
After leaving the military as a veteran, he started working as an installer and repairman with Bell Telephone. It was there at a company picnic that his Irish blue eyes caught the attention of Joan Cornelius who worked at the Bell Telephone business office.
They were married in 1956 and had six children, Maureen (Keith) Hutton, Robert (Vanessa) David, Laura David, Martin (Susan) David, Diane Saltmarsh (Tony Duarte), and Denise (Rick) Reiling; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Bob and Joan were happily married for 67 years prior to his passing.
Above all, Bob cherished his family. His other passions included Irish music and festivities, woodworking, gardening and tinkering around the house and in the garage. He had excellent handyman skills and loved to plant and see his garden grow from seed to table.
Bob spent more than 38 years as a service technician with Bell Telephone, retiring in 1992. If you ever had trouble with your landline in Carnegie, you probably met Bob! Wherever he went in Pittsburgh, he always seemed to run into someone he knew.
Bob was a member of the Carnegie White Eagles Club, the American Legion Post 290, the Ukrainian American Club, Polish American Citizens Club, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
