Green Tree

Robert V. Barth, Sr.

Age 90, of Green Tree, formerly of Mt. Washington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29 ,2025. Bob was born on April 15,1935 to Vincent and Mildred (McCarl) Barth. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Florence (Palombia) Barth and loving brother of Dorothy (Keith) Kostosky. Dad was the cherished father of Terri (Rich) Samolovitch, Robert (Nedalia) Barth, Jr., Mary (Harry) Klein, Colleen (Matt) Williams, and Kim Barth, the loving Pap to Katie, Scott, Matthew, Hayley, Harrison, Maeve, Madison (Brian), Laurel and Bryce (Hailey), as well as great grandchildren Charlotte, Madeleine, Olivia and Bryson.

A U.S. Army veteran, Bob retired from J & L Steel then changed careers to manage Calvary and Northside Cemeteries for the Catholic Cemetery Association. Although an avid reader and woodworker, he made time to instruct aspiring Catholics for the RCIA program, coordinate the Food Bank for the Prince of Peace Parish and the victim's mass for the We Are Remembered organization. But his greatest joy outside of his family, was his 50 years of service as a member of the first Catholic Deacon class of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Learning sign language early in his career, he dedicated countless hours writing and signing his homilies to the deaf community, celebrating Baptisms and marriages and administering the final prayers at funerals and gravesites. He also touched hundreds of lives delivering the Eucharist and comfort to others in their homes.
