Rita C. Brown

Age 92, died peacefully on April 29, 2023.   Rita was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. Brown, and loving mother of Karen C. Brown, the late Paul Michael Brown, and Maureen Werwie (James).  She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Viola Tepe and her sister Elizabeth Manko.  Rita (Reets) loved being the grandmother of 6 (Caitlin Lauchlan (Jennifer), Elizabeth Daligga (Thomas Appledorn), Jason Werwie (Nicole), Megan Werwie, Sara Cullen (Matt) and Ethan Werwie), as well as a great-grandma to 4 little ones and 2 teens who loved visiting her.  Rita was fortunate to enjoy a long, loving friendship with the late Dr. Paul Benz and his family in her later years.

We’ll always remember Rita for her kindness, hospitality, and open-mindedness.  She modeled for us importance of nurturing long-time, loyal friendships, while at the same time keeping her heart and door wide open to new possibilities.  Rita especially enjoyed playing bridge, other card games, and Mah-Jongg with friends.  She was proud to be a tech-savvy nonagenarian who used her i-Pad and other devices to keep her mind active and stay in touch with family and friends. 

Rita lived her entire life in Pittsburgh but took advantage of many travel opportunities to explore new places with friends and family.  She also couldn’t resist the urge to tap her foot or dance when the right music came on.  Reets had a way of staying positive and finding humor no matter what life presented her with.   We’ll deeply miss her spirited presence and contagious laughter brightening our lives.

Family and friends are welcome Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m., WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220 (412-563-2800).  Burial private.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Humane Animal Rescue, Pittsburgh, 1101 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
