Age 93, recently from Mt. Lebanon, PA and formerly from Montgomery, Illinois, passed away, Thursday, May, 21, 2020 at the Baptist Homes Nursing Center in Mt. Lebanon, PA. He was born July 27, 1926 in Aurora, IL.
Richard was a WWII veteran who served in Central Europe in the 106th Infantry. Richard was employed by the Aurora Township Highway Department for 45 years serving as foreman for 25 years and then as Highway Commissioner for 14 years. He married Rose Boytor on May 31, 1947, at St. Michael Church in Aurora. He was a member of the Turner Club, the VFW, the Phoenix Club, the American Legion and the Tiger Club. Rich enjoyed working on his lawn, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Jean (David deceased) Palcho of Mt. Lebanon, PA, two grandchildren, Michael (Jill) Palcho and Kathryn (Jeff) Shirk of PA. Two great grandchildren April Palcho and Matthew Palcho of PA; and one brother Jerry Hammond from Aurora IL and one sister, Donna Moore from Orangeville, IL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rose Boytor Hammond in 2003, his parents Peter and Catherine (Schuck) Hammond, 4 sisters, Betty Lakeman, Ruth Blanton, Elaine Ransford, Dorothy Kiefer and 1 brother, James Hammond.
Private visitation will be held at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, Scott Twp., PA and interment at Marywood Cemetery in Aurora, Illinois from THE DALEIDEN LASKE STREET MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois 60506.
