Richard G. Fallon

Pittsburgh--Richard G. Fallon, age 94 of Scott Township, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on July 20, 2021, surrounded by his beloved wife Helen and family. Dick and twin Robert were born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1927 to Alice and Patrick Fallon, the youngest of 9 children. After graduating from Saint Vincent Preparatory School, Dick received a liberal arts education at Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He went on to pursue graduate studies in education, receiving a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dick was selected as one of just twelve teachers for a prestigious State Department Scholarship at the University of Hawaii. There he studied Japanese, Chinese and Korean cultures, and as part of the exchange program he traveled to Asia.

Dick spent his life in service of others. He worked for the Pittsburgh Public Schools as a teacher, a vice principal and a guidance counselor. He worked for seventeen years at Taylor Alderdice High School in Squirrel Hill. Dick also served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was an active member of Saint Simon & Jude Parish church where he and his wife volunteered as Eucharistic ministers. He served as a Commissioner for Scott Township for 24 years and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was President of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area on Aging and worked tirelessly as President of the POW/MIA tri-state area, representing the organization in an annual conference in Washington, DC. He had a gift for speech and made many trips to Washington D.C. to speak out for all those not accounted for, including his brother, Col. Patrick M. Fallon who was MIA after his A-1 Skyraider plane was shot down over the Plain of Jars, Laos on July 4, 1969.

More than anything, Dick loved his extensive family and was known for his service to God, community and country. One of Richard's fondest family memories was taking an aerospace seminar with Helen and Mark in which they flew a single engine Piper into State College PA.

Richard was a devoted husband and was married to his adoring wife Helen, for 61 years. He was loved by many family members, including his son, Mark (predeceased), his sister, Eileen Coulter of Mclean, VA and his sister-in-law Jean Fallon of Atlanta, GA . Other siblings predeceased by Richard are Mary Catherine Pardini (William), Alice McClain (Kenneth), John Fallon (Dorothy), Agnes Kratovil (Robert), Patrick Fallon (Jean), Regis Fallon (Mary) and Robert Fallon (Patricia).

Richard was also adored by numerous nieces and nephews from across the country. We will miss him beyond words, but will always remember his loving and generous ways, his powerful public speaking, his inspirational Mahout-and the elephant story, and his strong and cheerful "Greetings, Greetings!".

Funeral Mass Saturday, July 24 at 12:00 noon at Saint Simon and Jude church (of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish.) Burial with full military honors to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
