Retired Marine and former Pittsburgh Press Reporter, Richard E. "Dick" Arnold of Green Tree, died October 11, 2013, at the age of 80. He retired from the press in 1990 after joining the newspaper upon his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1970. During his 20 years service as a Marine, he received more than a dozen medals and decorations and was a combat veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a captain following his commission during Vietnam while a master gunnery sergeant. Born in Baltimore, MD, Arnold met his widow, the former Geraldine M. Chinko, of the North Side, while assigned recruiting duty at the old post office building on Smithfield St., following his return from Korea. The couple celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary in January, 2013. In addition to his widow, survivors include twin sons, David C. of Sunnydale, CA and Richard D. of Davidsonville, MD, Mark S. of Butler, PA and Dean C. of Lafayette, IN; also two grandchildren. Friends welcome Sunday 12-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., where a Blessing Service will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. Interment in Christ Our Redeemer North Side Catholic Cemetery.
