Regina Harriet Phillips was born on April 12, 1930, in Aliquippa, Beaver County, PA. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harry Dean Phillips on January 8, 1970, and Regina Mary Phillips on October 9, 1980. Dr. Phillips was a 1948 graduate of St. Veronica High School, Ambridge, PA, 1951 graduate of Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing, in 1962 she attained her B. S. degree in nursing from Duquesne University School of Nursing. She obtained her Master's in Nursing Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. After graduating from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing, Dr. Phillips became an operating room staff nurse and later a Clinical Instructor at the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing. Dr. Phillips continued her career in nursing education at Sewickley Valley Hospital and later as Medical-Surgical Nursing Instructor at Duquesne University in 1969. In addition to teaching, Dr. Phillips served in several administrative positions while at Duquesne University. She taught in the graduate nursing program at Edinboro University. In 1980 she was appointed as Dean of the Edinboro University Nursing Department. While at Edinboro University, Dr. Phillips was instrumental in developing the Master of Science Degree in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner Degree. Dr. Phillips dedicated her professional career to her love of nursing. Dr. Phillips was a member of the following organizations: Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses' Association, she served as a Board member and is a Past President of District #10 PNA. The National League for Nursing, she served as Editor, and Vice President of the PLN. The Lake Area Health Association Center. Erie Conference for Community Development Task Force on Education. State System of Higher Education of Pennsylvania, Heath Professions' Committee. She will be greatly missed by her many friends. All are welcome to a Mass of Christian Burial in Resurrection Parish, St. Thomas More Church 126 Fort Couch Road., Bethel Park, 15241 on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
