Quinter C. Beery, 85, of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania died at home Friday, May 8, 2026. He is preceded in death by his wife Linda (Meyers), his parents Cleo C Beery and Miriam (Stover) Beery, and brother Galen Beery, and survived by his brother Harvey (Marty) Beery, children Laurel Chiappetta (Olubodunrin Oboh, “Bod”) and Jason (Blessy Bellamy); grandchildren Genevieve, Andrew, and Sophia Chiappetta; and his beloved basset hound, Watson.
Born in Clovis, New Mexico, Quinter grew up in La Verne, California where he graduated from Bonita High School, La Verne College (B.S.), the University of Redlands (M.S.). He relocated to Pittsburgh where he met and then married Linda [Meyers] Beery in 1969, and obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh. After a brief time in Boston, they returned to settle in Pittsburgh. There, he enjoyed a long career as a speech language pathologist at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Eye and Ear Institute, and later provided care in skilled nursing facilities and home care throughout Western Pennsylvania and Western Maryland.
Quinter was warm, friendly, loving, and outgoing. He loved the outdoors, playing the guitar, camping, and travelling with his family and friends. He was a handyman, musician, amateur photographer, helpful neighbor, and had a great sense of humor. He valued education and experiences, and supported others in the pursuit of their happiness; he was always willing to help.
Quint loved spending time with friends and family. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and was a nurturing and loving dad and “Opa”. To them he was always up to anything: taking pictures, encouraging imagination, tinkering in the garage, gardening, making silly faces, and sharing popcorn. He was ALWAYS there for a hug.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held in the Pittsburgh area on August 8, 2026 and in Southern California in early October.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission, continuing the fight Quinter championed through twelve years of clinical research participation. Donate either directly to the Alzheimer’s Association or by supporting or joining our Ride to End Alz team, A Quint-Essential Ride.
Arrangements entrusted to William Slater II Funeral Service. 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 15220 412-563-2800.
