Penelope E. Komninos

Penelope (Popi) E. Komninos, age 88, died of cancer on June 17, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Evangelos Komninos, she is survived by her two sons, John Komninos and Nicholas Komninos, and her brothers Nicholas Ikonomidis (and his wife Irene) and Spiros Ikonomidis (and his late wife Stellani). She immigrated to the U.S. from the island of Lemnos, in Greece, in 1962. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening (she had quite the green thumb), and volunteering at church as a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was also a remarkable cook who loved to make ethnic Greek food of every type and avidly shared her recipes. She worked primarily as a homemaker but also a candy maker at a chocolatier until her retirement. Penelope was known for her warm and gentle heart, kindness and generosity. The visitation will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 10:00 AM until noon, followed by the funeral between noon and 1:00 PM. Both will be held at St. George’s Chapel at The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cemetery at 8941 Ringeisen Rd, Allison Park, PA 15101. Afterwards a memorial luncheon (Makaria) will be held between 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM at Rico’s Restaurant, 1 Rico Lane, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
