Oliver M. Scales Schmidt

Age 53, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 20, 2023.  Oliver was the loving husband of Norma (Scales) Schmidt, beloved father of Gavin and Eva Schmidt, son of Carla and the late Erhard Schmidt, brother of Philipp Schmidt (Ani), and son-in-law of Kemp and Eda Scales. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other family members, and dear friends around the world. 

Oliver graduated from the Freie Universität Berlin with a master’s degree in business administration and communication science.  As a life-long entrepreneur, he was President and CEO of C4CS for over 20 years, providing consulting, training, and executive coaching in areas of strategic communication, crisis management, and organizational leadership.  He was a frequent speaker/presenter at universities worldwide and belonged to a number of emergency management organizations. 

Born in Berlin, Germany, Oliver remembered growing up within the confines of the Berlin Wall.  He was an academy soccer player in his youth, and later a competitive table tennis player. 

Oliver was married to his best friend, Norma, for 26 years, and Gavin and Eva were Oliver’s pride and joy. It was his top priority to be present for and take care of his family.  

Those who knew Olli will remember his thoughtful manner, his genuine interest in new acquaintances, his contagious laugh, and his innate ability to find true joy in the simple pleasures of life.

All are welcome Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 11:30 AM until 2 PM at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800.  A private family memorial will be held at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to USA for UNHCR.
