Age 85, of Dormont, died on December 19, 2020. She was born in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, PA to the late Marina and John Hurenko. Sister of Richard Boyd (dec.) and Nancy Boyd (dec.). She was the wife of the late John (Jack) Preffer and mother to the late J. Douglas Preffer. She is survived by daughter, Christine Popovich (Mark) and son, Robb Preffer (Jenny). Grandchildren, TJ Preffer, Alex and Amanda Popovich, Jared Beasley, Jamie Holland (Wes), Samantha and Cameron Preffer and great-granddaughter Charlotte Holland. Olga attended Schenley High School where she was the Drum Majorette that led the band to Pitt Stadium the year Schenley won the City Championship. During high school, the Ice Capades trained her to become an Ice Capette and following graduation, she traveled the country performing with the Ice Capades. After marrying Jack Preffer and moving to Dormont, she pursued many interests. She was a secretary, a master tailor, a cake decorator, an ice-skating teacher, high scoring bowler, avid swimmer, and an accomplished oil painter. She even had a silk flower arrangement business. She became a famous Nursery School teacher at Wallace Memorial Nursery School (now Unity Preschool) and influenced many student's and families' lives. Olga travelled with friends to Germany, Israel, England, Hawaii, Alaska, California, and the Caribbean including Mexico. She was highly active in her church, Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, now Unity Presbyterian, where she sang in the choir, was president of the Women's Organization, and was responsible for putting up and decorating the 25-30-foot Chrismon tree with Chrismons during Advent. Private family only visitation is Saturday, December 26, 2 PM-6 PM (face masks required and follow all Covid-19 guidelines) at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp. 15220. Service at Unity Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 27 at 1 PM. The Service will be livestreamed on Unity Presbyterian Church's Facebook page. It will then be uploaded to YouTube following the service.
