Age 33, died on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Beloved son of Susanne Burkey Maurer, Mt. Lebanon, and Jonathan H. Maurer, Fayetteville, GA; precious brother of Susannah Maurer Smith, Birmingham, AL; and proud uncle of Claire Margaret and Robert Oliver Smith. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Born July 26, 1982, in Wichita, KS, he attended elementary school in Baltimore, MD, and Ashland, KY. Nate attended Mt. Lebanon Middle School, Mt. Lebanon High School, and The Linsly School (Wheeling, WV). He was a gifted athlete in sports including basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, football, tennis and golf. Nate attended Grove City College for two years (2001-2003) and earned recognition as an NCAA Division III pre-season All-American basketball selection. He transferred to Carnegie Mellon University (class of 2006), where he was recognized as University Athletic Association Conference Co-Player of the Year and helped lead the Tartans to their first UAA basketball championship in 2006. Nate went on to play professionally in Porto, Portugal. He returned to Pittsburgh and worked for National City, PNC, and most recently, US Bank. Nate found a new sport, Gaelic football, and played for the Pittsburgh Celtics, helping them win National Championships in 2011 and 2012. He also coached the women's Pittsburgh Banshees Gaelic team during its 2013 National Championship season. Friends received Friday 2-8 p.m. at Slater Funeral Home, 1650 Greentree Road.
