Natalie Leon-Golankiewicz, an Overbrook resident, died on April 6, 2023 At the age of 76.
Natalie graduated with honors from the City University of New York with a degree in business law 26 years after her mother, a certified public accountant, received recognition for being the first woman graduate from that institute. During her lifetime, Natalie worked for several law firms until her retirement from Eckert Seamans in 2015. She also maintained a private tax practice in the Steubenville, Ohio area for more than 35 years. While living in that area, she served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and directed choir at St. Andrews Orthodox Church.
Following her retirement, Natalie devoted herself to helping others. She was a volunteer for Family Hospice and Palliative care in Mt. Lebanon for many years, and helped many friends who had health issues. She was spokeswoman for her neighbors in a successful five-year battle against the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to prove their sewer lines were public, saving thousands of dollars for residents.
Natalie was an animal lover, and besides nuturinnurturing her own pets, she cared for all forms of wildlife that passed through her back yard. She loved to cook and bake and received many accolades, including publication in a cookbook published by Quail Press.
Natalie was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Southside. She served as a Trustee on the Parish Council and actively participated in the fish fries which was a Parish fundraiser.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, a sister, and her devoted husband, Chuck Golankiewicz. Natalie is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, and thirteen godchildren.
Friends welcome April 19, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8pm in WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd, Scott Twp. 15220 where a Parastas service will be held at 7pm. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10am in the funeral home. Burial to follow in St. Josaphat Catholic Cemetery with Father Patrick and Rev. Alexander Lukashonak, her Godson, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Animal Humane Rescue or the animal society of ones choice.
