Nancy Thompson Warters
Passed away on August 16, 2018, at the age of 89. She was born and raised in the East Liberty and Highland Park neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, PA, and then spent her adult life in Dormont and the South Hills. She was a proud graduate of both Peabody High School and Carnegie Tech. On September 3, 1955, she married James C. "Jim" Warters and they enjoyed more than 62 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband and their three sons, James T. Warters of Squirrel Hill, William C. Warters of Harper Woods, MI, and Thomas R Warters of Milford, CT. Also her daughters in law Loraleigh and Kelly, her three grandsons, Spencer, Benjamin, and Jackson, and her god daughter Kun An of Lynchburg, VA.
Always happiest in the company of others, Nancy and Jim enjoyed a close-knit and loving extended family and a wide circle of friends. She was active in the church all of her life and served as an Elder at both Dormont Presbyterian and Wallace (now Unity) Presbyterian Churches. She loved the water and enjoyed swimming, particularly over many years at Dormont Pool. She was passionate about her work with League of Women Voters and as a literacy tutor, and was an enthusiastic life long reader.
Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:00am, Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Unity Presbyterian Church, 1146 Greentree Rd, Pgh, PA 15220. A reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dormont Library, Literacy Pittsburgh, and Unity Presbyterian Church.
