Born on January 5, 1935, in Windber, Pennsylvania, daughter of Regis and Irene (Hobart) Sherlock. Nancy grew up in a hardworking family, she developed the resilience, determination, and strength of character that would define her throughout her life. Nancy was the last surviving member of her generation, joining in heaven her parents, her beloved husband Bill, 4 brothers, Hobart, Bob, Jack and Pat and her beloved sister Kaye.
Education was one of Nancy's greatest accomplishments and passions. She earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, an extraordinary achievement for a young woman from a small coal-mining town. As a pediatric nurse, she dedicated her career to caring for children and supporting families, bringing intelligence, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her work.
In 1975, Nancy married the love of her life, Bill Anderson. Along with gaining a husband, she became an instant mother to four teenagers—a role she embraced wholeheartedly. Though she never gave birth to children of her own, Nancy proved every day that motherhood is measured not by biology, but by love. She was the kind of mother every child hopes for: supportive, dependable, wise, and fiercely devoted. Her love only grew as her family expanded through grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Nancy is survived by her grateful children: Debbie (Bob) Martini, Celeste Anderson, Noreen Anderson, and Brian (Marci) Anderson.
She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Alyssa (Steve) DeLuca, Erica (Jeremy) Lemley, Jeremy (Luci) Lex, Amy Boylan, Justin Jackson, and Jason (Courtney) Lex.
She was also blessed to be the beloved great-grandmother of fourteen.
Nancy is also survived by her loving nieces, Kathleen and Karen, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives were made better by knowing her. Dear friend of Christine Robinette and loving Nanny to her son, Connor Robinette.
To know Nancy was to know kindness. She treated everyone with dignity and warmth, never hesitating to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement. She loved dancing, had a wonderful sense of humor, and possessed a strength that carried her through life's challenges with grace and determination. She adored Fudgesicles and vanilla ice cream, treasured time with her family, and never missed an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of those she loved.
In her later years, Nancy developed a bit of a sassy streak and could occasionally be delightfully cranky—a quality that only made her more endearing to those closest to her. Her quick wit, sharp observations, and unmistakable personality brought laughter to countless family gatherings, and those who loved her wouldn't have changed a thing.
Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, education, service, and family. She showed us what it means to care deeply, work hard, laugh often, and love unconditionally. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her influence will continue to live on through the generations of family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched.
The family would like to thank everyone who shared in Nancy's life and loved her along the way.
