Morris J. Miller, beloved husband, father and Pittsburgh businessman, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the age of 79 with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Margery Miller of Pittsburgh and his children Jennifer Miller Gelick and Catherine Miller Penn both of Westchester County, NY, as well a son-in-law Jeffrey Penn and 4 granddaughters Sarah and Olivia Gelick and Rachel and Laura Penn. He is also survived by his sister, Idelle Hoffman of Huntington Beach, CA.
Morry, as he was known, owned the long-time family business, Izzy Miller Furniture in Carnegie, PA with his twin brother, Larry. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1936 and was raised in Bridgeville and Carnegie. He attended Carnegie High School, graduating in 1954 and attended Parsons School of Design in New York City. After a career at Herman Miller Furniture, he returned to Pgh to manage the family furniture store with his brother and raise his family in Upper St. Clair.
Morry enjoyed his many passions during his retirement including extensive boating, and world travels. In the last few years, winters were spent in Florida with good friends. A recent trip to Paris with his wife Margie was particularly memorable.
Morry, who has always been an active community member and volunteer in charitable organizations, serving as trustee of Centennial Lafayette Lodge #544. Member of Syria Temple, US Power Squadron, American Legion, US Coast Guard Auxillary, and a veteran of the US Air Force. In addition to being an avid sailor and boating captain, he was a member of Chartiers Country Club.
Morry will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and adventurous spirit.
A private family funeral is scheduled for this week at William Slater II Funeral Service. A public memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 also at William Slater II Funeral Service, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp.
In Morry's honor, memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at diabetesfoundation.jdrf.com and the Salvation Army, 225 W. Main St., Carnegie, PA 15106.
