Michael William Cavanaugh (Mike), 72, of Pittsburgh, PA, died on May 14, 2023, due to complications from Metastatic Melanoma. Mike was a generous man with a dry wit and an infectious laugh. He studied HVAC at Triangle Tech Pittsburgh, worked as a Stationery and Steam Engineer, and served in The United States Navy.
Born in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret Cavanaugh. He is predeceased by his brother Kevin Cavanaugh. His siblings and their spouses will greatly miss him: Patrick Cavanaugh (Cindy), Anne Cavanaugh, Tim Cavanaugh, Kathleen Palmer (Harry), Sean Cavanaugh (Linda), Brain Cavanaugh (Candy), Peggy Fiore (Carl), Maureen Berry (Larry), Mary Owen (Scott), Eileen Weinmann (Tony), plus multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nephew.
In the autumn of his life, when he wasn’t practicing Tai Chi or walking for fitness, he tended his garden, played the violin, attended the Pittsburgh Symphony, and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin fan. Go Pens! Mike would’ve reached his sobriety goal in September 2023, which was a great source of pride for him and his family. He fought brain cancer for nine months, but cancer did not define him. He will be missed. Family and friends welcome Sunday 2-6 pm WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd. Scott Twp. 15220 where a service will be held Monday at 12:00 noon.
