Melissa H. Zalewski of Castle Shannon danced into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, January 14,2026. Melissa passed from death to life at home surrounded by family. Melissa leaves her beloved husband Michael Raymond whom she has loved since 1972 at Holy Innocents High School. She went on to graduate from Bishop Canevin High School in 1975.
Michael and Melissa were married in May of 1980 and celebrated 45 years of marriage this year.
Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Mary Laverne (Burke) Hoelzle and her brothers Anthony Jr. and Peter. She leaves behind her sisters JoEllen (Gary) Adams and Kristin Hoelzle. Melissa was the loving “Ya-Ya” to Megan (Alexa and Wyatt) Ethan, Erin (Jazmine, Saedi, Shaun, Asa, Trevor, Brennan, and Ahmed) Anton, Devin, Paloma, Morinda, Kristen, Jacki, and Emma.
Melissa was the adored mother of Brittany (Brian Stewart) Zalewski, Ashley (Jeremy) Emph, and Greta (James) Eastburn. She most delighted in her role as cherished “Mimi” of Tara and Mackenzie Stewart and Noah and Bennett Emph. She was a delightful cheerleader for every soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, violin and choral recital, Irish dance performance and so much more. Her grandchildren lit up her life and she theirs.
Melissa worked as a unit secretary at in the ICU St. Clair memorial hospital for twenty years. There she demonstrated compassion and empathy for families and health care workers in an incredibly stressful environment.
Melissa loved the Lord. She was a regular attendant of The Bible Chapel in McMurray, Pa. She made many lasting impressions and grew in her love and walk in her faith. We can confidently say she walks in paradise today.
Family and friends welcome on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 15220. A celebration of life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 11:00 am in The Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Dr. McMurray, PA 15317. Burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Scott Twp. Reception to follow at the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department’s hall.
