Age 35 of Pittsburgh, unexpectedly on Monday, December 21, 2015. Loving husband of Hannah P. Gradisar; beloved son of Patricia (Bob) Theobald Strack and Rex B. (Kathy) Whalen. Loving father of Logan, Mattix, Sadie and Jake. Brother of Jeffrey (Carol) Whalen and Rand (Malinda Turner) Whalen, and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will mourn his passing. Mattthew was a 1998 graduate of Keystone Oaks High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army after 911. He served 4 combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. SSG Whalen served the majority of his service with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00a.m. Friday in St. Anne's Church, 400 Hoodridge Dr, Pgh, PA, 15234. Burial with full military honors National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
