It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew Dax Keener, who was known to most as Wheelz. Matt left an imprint on the lives of all he met for the 43 wonderful years he was with us here.
Matt loved the city of Pittsburgh where he relocated to in 2001. It was here he found his love for craft beer and all Pittsburgh sports teams, even the Pirates. He enjoyed spending time with his close friends who have truly become members of the family. Matt placed the highest priority on caring for others and his close friends, many of whom grew up with him back home where he forged life long friendships at Rocky Grove High School in Franklin, PA. Matt loved live music, dirt track racing, and golfing with his buddies, a sport he loved since high school.
At the end of his beautiful life, he continued this legacy of caring through organ donation with CORE, changing the lives of at least 6 people across the country.
Matt is survived by his wife of two years, Lori (Farnsworth), originally from Erie, PA. In May of this year, they welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Ryan William. Also surviving, Matthew's mother, Christine Fillgrove, grandmother Jane LaKari, and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. He was also an amazing uncle to 8 nieces and nephews, two of which proudly call him their Godfather. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Richard Keener. Friends welcome Sunday 2-4, 6-8p.m. Freyvogel-Slater Funeral Directors (412-835-1860) 112 Fort Couch Rd, Bethel Park (Opposite Macy's South Hills Village). Mass of Christian Burial 10:00a.m. Monday in St. Thomas More Church, Bethel Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to help provide the amazing life for Ryan that Matt would have wanted. Donations may be addressed to Ryan Keener at P.O. Box 804, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
