Mary Slezak (Muza)
A beloved mother, with tremendous wit and a love of family, music, and fun, at age 90, Mary Slezak, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, surrounded by her devoted children. Mary's gentle compassion and joy of life were an inspiration to those around her. She was born on March 11, 1928 in the South Side, to Barbara Zgurich Muza and John Muza, immigrants from Croatia, who created a home filled with love, laughter, and music for Mary and her seven siblings.
Mary loved all kinds of music, and learned to play the piano at an early age. She loved spending time with her family, especially during Sunday dinners, playing the piano and singing, and outwitting her children and grandchildren at card games. Her compassion for others and generosity to them was a constant throughout her life. Mary had a heart for those less fortunate and was a regular donor to CARE and Food for the Poor. She had a strong faith in Christ, and was an inspiration to all who knew her as she met her many life challenges with dignity, determination and courage.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Matone and the late Michael F. Slezak; mother of Michael Matone (Kristine), Nancy Cooper (Randy), Patricia Timm (Terry), Joseph Slezak (Jacqulyn), Michelle Baich (Dan), and Maryann Garda (Ron); sister of Dorothy Potash, Joseph Muza, Theresa McFarland, Carol Campbell and the late Stephen Muza, Rose Shiring and Anna Baehr. She is also survived by 21 loving grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Old St. Luke's Church, 330 Old Washington Pike, Carnegie PA 15106. Donations may be made to Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Rd, Coconut Creek FL 33073.
