Mary Raupp: A Legacy of Light, Love, and Joy.

Mary Raupp, 81, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, joining her beloved husband just before the start of the holiday season she cherished so deeply. A cherished mother, inspiring educator, and devoted grandmother, Mary’s warmth and vibrant spirit were a gift that enriched the lives of all who knew her. Born on May 12, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Mary was the loving daughter of William (Holmes) and Mary Isler. She possessed a lifelong dedication to education, earning her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). Mary’s true calling was in the classroom. She began her teaching career in the Baldwin Whitehall School District before embracing the role of full-time mother. She later returned to education, where she found her professional home and heart as a beloved 2nd grade and kindergarten teacher at Eisenhower Elementary in the Upper St. Clair School District. For decades, Mary enriched the life of her students creating foundational love of learning until her retirement. Mary and her husband, Jerry, shared an extraordinary and enduring 53 year partnership, a relationship built on mutual respect, adventure, and unconditional love. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their children, Gretchen and Jerry. Mary’s greatest delight in her later years was her five grandchildren Marin, Louis, Thomas, Lillian, and Gerald III. As their beloved "Nanny, " her days were illuminated by the joy of spoiling, connecting, and nurturing her "babies,”  cementing a legacy of unconditional love across generations. Mary and Jerry’s life together was one of energy and shared passions. As active members of both the St. Clair Country Club and the Duquesne Club, Mary and Jerry fostered a wide, vibrant circle of friends and family. Her retirement was a testament to her adventurous spirit, filled with extensive world travel that allowed them to explore corners of the globe. Mary’s commitment extended beyond her family and classroom. She was dedicated to her community, giving generously of her time by volunteering at Rosalie House and proudly lending her expertise to the board of the renowned Pittsburgh Symphony. It is a comforting thought that Mary was able to join Jerry just before the holidays, as one of their most treasured annual traditions was decorating their magnificent, 15-foot-plus Christmas tree. This towering symbol of light and festivity perfectly reflects the abundant joy and life they brought into the world. Mary’s indelible spirit survives through her loving children, Gretchen and Jerry, daughter in law, Colleen and her five devoted grandchildren, who will forever carry forward her legacy of Generosity, Determination, and Boundless Love.
