Mary Louise Nelson, age 86 of Pittsburgh, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 after spending her final days surrounded by family and friends. She was the beloved wife of the late Jerome M. Nelson; daughter of the late David and Mary (Group) Mente; loving mother of Mary Jean (Kelly) Rollick, Nanceann (Robert) Harwick, Jerome (Lynn) Nelson, and Michael (Melissa) Nelson; sister of David (Jackie) Mente, Zella (Lewis) Dellana, Carol Jean (Ralph) Froehlich, late Rita LaVerne (David) Kyle, and late Paul (Carol) Mente. She was the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren - Elizabeth (Jon), Stephen (Nikki), Laura, Brian, Michael, Mary Carolyn, Mark (Alyssa), Sarah, Katie, Stephen, Lindsey, David, Abby, Cecilia, Joe, Maggie, Andrew, Grace, and her 4 great grandchildren – Joey, Michael, Caroline, and Olivia. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing and spent the early part of her career as a nurse at various hospitals in the South Hills and later served as a nursing home surveyor for the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health.
She was a very active member of the church and devoted her entire life to helping others, whether it be cooking meals for priests, volunteering as an Usher at the Benedum, or praying for and serving the residents of Marion Manor and Family Hospice.
She held a special place in heart for grandchildren and will always be remembered for her loving support, sense of humor, and world famous brownies.

Latin Requien Mass will be at 10AM on Saturday, November 3rd at St. James Catholic Church, 326 S Main Street, Pittsburgh PA 15220. Donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church or Marion Manor.
