Age 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Mt. Lebanon on October 15, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Gary Gorski. She is survived by her sons Christopher Gorski and his wife Michelle, Gary Gorski and his wife Clare, and Alexander Gorski; grandsons Flynn and Emmett Gorski; granddaughters Nora and Aria Gorski; and sisters Esther Tomaszewski and Christina Schiarelli. Mary is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was born on October 4, 1948 in the Allentown neighborhood of Pittsburgh to Alexander and Esther (Schnupp) Nowacki. Gary and Mary were married on October 6, 1973 and moved to their home in Mt. Lebanon in 1986.
Mary was valedictorian of the St. George High School Class of 1966 and earned her bachelor's degree in special education from Clarion University in 1969. She became a flight attendant in February 1970 and flew the friendly skies with United Airlines for more than 50 years.
Mary taught Sunday school at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for more than 10 years and later in life was an active member of the Bower Hill Community Church. She also volunteered countless hours with Catholic Charities, Clipped Wings, and other causes. Always putting others before herself, Mary donated nearly everything she could afford to charity.
Mary brought comfort and joy to all those around her. Throughout her life, the Gorski house was always the gathering place. It was the place where her children brought their friends, where her family celebrated Thanksgiving and the 4th of July, where people turned when they needed a place to stay. Everyone knew that they were always welcome at the Gorski house, and that Mary would greet them with kindness when they walked through the door.
Her children will remember her as an unfailingly loving and supportive mother and grandmother. For 40 years, she cheered her children through every success and supported them through every challenge. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp. 15220. The family requests that those attending wear a mask. A private mass will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. A public memorial service and celebration of Mary's life for all friends and family will be scheduled once the Covid-19 pandemic has ended.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the humanitarian organization Refugees International or to the St. George Preservation Society.
