Mary K. Franks

Mary was born and raised in Greene County, PA, the youngest and last of an Irish family (Geary) of eight children.  She played piano and sang throughout her life, singing on the radio as a teenager in Green County (Macushla amongst others).  When a young girl, she would travel a long distance (including a cable ferry across the river) to take piano lessons.  She and her husband Steve (deceased) of 71+ years both attended and met at Monongahela Township High School, where they both played in the marching band (Mary – glockenspiel; Steve – alto sax).   Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.  She was, in particular, fiercely devoted to her family, ensuring that all of her children were educated beyond high school and played music.  There was always music in Mary’s household; picnics in the backyard (with horseshoes); and holiday dinners with the house packed and using the good dishes (of course).

Age 93, of Green Tree, On Thursday, March 23, 2023.  Beloved wife for 71 years to the late Steven J. Franks.  Dear mother of Steven (Lynne) Franks, Jim (Mary) Franks, Karen (Richard) Phillip, Mark (Stephanie) Franks and the late Thomas (Surviving wife, Julie) Franks.  Also 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  Sister of the late Bernard, Paul, Billy, Claire, Marguerite, and Jane.  Also preceded in death by her parents William & Catherine (McDermott) Geary.  Family and friends are welcome Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220 (412-563-2800).  Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, St. Raphael the Archangel Parish.  Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  If desired, memorial donations may be sent to a charity of your choice.
