Age 98, passed away July 2, 2021 in Pittsburgh, PA. Marie was the daughter of Peter and Sophia (Sheofsky) Hritz of Punxsutawney, PA. She graduated from Punxsutawney High School; class of 1941. On October 22, 1949 Marie married George A. Hudak, Jr. at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Punxsutawney, PA. The couple raised three children, James, Linda, and Patricia. While her children attended Saints Cosmas & Damian (Ss.CD) schools, Marie was a member of the PTA. She and her father-in-law, George Hudak, Sr., were avid Bingo players at the Ss.CD Bingo Nights. Marie was very involved at Ss.CD parish as well. She was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist in the hospital ministry, a member of the Rosary Altar Society, helped to clean the church, worked at funeral luncheons, and assisted at the parish festivals. Marie also worked at the local polls and at the Red Cross blood banks. She was a member of the former Punxsutawney Homemakers Club. A lifelong lover of reading, Marie requested new books be purchased for Literacy Pittsburgh (formerly the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council) in lieu of gifts for her 90th birthday celebration. She was well-known and appreciated by grateful family and friends for whom she made her delicious chocolate fudge. In 2011, Marie moved to Pittsburgh to live with her daughter, Patricia and husband, Carl. Marie was pre-deceased by her loving husband, her parents, and all of her siblings: sisters, Ann Molnar, Agatha Pinchok, Sophia Knapik, Betty Hritz, Doris Cekovsky, and brothers, Mike, Peter, John, her twin brother, George, infant brother, George, for whom her twin was named, and most recently her baby brother, Charles. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, James (Upper Saint Clair, PA); her daughter, Patricia (Carl) Orangis (Mt. Lebanon, PA) and her daughter, Linda (James) Deahl, Jr.; her grandsons, Joseph and Jonathan Deahl (all of Waterford, MI) and her granddaughter, Jordan (Mark) Hickson, and great-grandson, Owen, (Rochester, MI) in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In accordance with Marie's wishes, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 8, 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 311 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon (Pittsburgh), PA 15216. Marie will be laid to eternal rest beside her beloved husband at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney, PA. Memorial donations may be made to Saints Cosmas & Damian Church, 616 West Mahoning St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800.
