Margaret Ruth Hurney

Age 85, of Green Tree, peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, January 7, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Leon Lawrence Hurney; loving mother of Douglas (Michele), Robert (Sheryl), Patricia (James) Rigos, David, Gerald (Bonita) and Thomas (Linda); cherished grandmother of Melissa, Rebecca, Jessica, Jackie, Christopher, Nicholas, Megan, Alex, Matthew, Jenny, Leeanne, Kimberly, Leon, Gerald, and Alicia; 11 great-grandchildren; also survived by her dear childhood friends, Dolores Sheridan and Lois Fuchs. Margaret was the owner and operator of Metropolitan Cleaners (South Side) for 44 years. She continued to work daily until the time of her death. Her customers and fellow businessman became lifelong friends. She loved being surrounded by people, always enjoying their stories, learning about their lives, and lending a listening ear. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and collecting cookbooks. She was an avid reader, worked crossword puzzles, bowled, and played cards. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. Mom was our rock, always there for us in good times and bad. Margaret will be remembered for her big, warm heart, her gentle spirit, and her special holiday dinners. She embraced life and lived it to the fullest. We are blessed to have her in our lives.
