Maha Basil

d. June 29, 2018

Maha Basil, age 89, of Green Tree, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018 with her children by her side. Maha was predeceased by her husband Joseph Basil. Surviving to mourn her death are her children: Joseph (Marge) Basil, Theresa Basil, Paul (June) Basil, Lorraine (John) Horner, and Lawrence Basil. Maha is also survived by her sister Nada Corm of Beirut, Lebanon; grandchildren Melissa (Keith) Boswell, Stacy Basil, Jennifer (Robert) Reed, Carla (David) Tcholakian, and Katie Horner; as well as great-grandchildren Noah Boswell, Leah Boswell, Luca Reed, and James Tcholakian; and many nieces and nephews. The story of Maha's life is a testimony to her courage, faith, and love. Maha and Joseph lived in Paris, France and Bremerhaven, Germany before settling in Green Tree after Joseph completed his service in the US Army during WWII. Both were incredibly patriotic, proud to be US Citizens, and grateful for all that this country offered and stood for. Maha used her knowledge of 3 languages to help countless International patients who came to Pittsburgh for care in our hospitals. Not only did she provide translation services, but she assisted families in getting settled in their temporary homes. Many of these families continued to stay in touch long after they returned to their native countries. Maha will most be remembered for her gracious hospitality and strong devotion to family, friends, and church. She was generous and tireless in her efforts for church and community causes like The Pittsburgh Folk Festival, St. Margaret's of Scotland Church, and Our Lady of Victory Church which was founded by their uncle, Monsignor Elias Basil. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., PA 15220.
