Loretta Rita Burke

Loretta Rita Burke, 90, of Dormont passed away on Saturday January 28th, 2023 at home.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas (Hoagie) Burke. Loretta is survived by her children, Debra (Dave) Matter, Thomas Burke, Donna (the late John) Atkins  and Joseph (Darlene) Burke and her grandchildren Laura (Radames) Colon, Melissa (John) White, John Atkins, Kelly Matter, Michael (Amy) Matter and Thomas Burke. Loretta is also survived by her great grandchildren, Radames, Madeline, Sean, Ryan, Lily and Nathan.

Loretta was the beloved daughter of Laura (Scalise) Hickman and John Curry. Loretta was  raised in Oakland with her mother, step father, Elmer (Joe) Hickman, and brothers, Jim Curry, Jackie Curry and Tom Bruce. Being the only girl in the family, Loretta had no problem at all keeping up with her three brothers and was often described as a tomboy. When not playing rough with the boys, Loretta took great pride in her appearance and even worked as a model for Westinghouse.

At just 15 years old, Loretta met the love of her life, her late husband Thomas while at a picnic. One year later, Loretta and Tom eloped in West Virginia.  Their love story continued as they welcomed their 4 children, Debbie, Tom, Donna & Joe. Loretta and Tom bought their first home in Dormont, where she has lived for 65 years.

Loretta devoted her life to her family; whether it was planning big family gatherings, or small get together with her children and grandchildren, she always knew how to make it special! She was an amazing cook and hostess and never let anyone leave her home hungry!  Loretta took great pride in keeping her home tidy and decorated, especially when those decorations could be purchased for a great price at a garage sale, flea market or thrift store!

Loretta will be dearly missed by all who knew her, however, her family takes great comfort in knowing that she was reunited with her dear husband in heaven.

Family and friends welcome on Saturday February 4th from 6-8pm. WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp 15220 where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 8:00pm. Entombment will be private to the family.
