Loretha (Lorry) Hoyer

Hoyer-Loretha (Lorry) McMinn died peacefully at the age of 104 on December 10, 2022.

Born January 17, 1918, in Waynesburg, PA daughter of the late Joseph and Josie (Bane) McMinn. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude J. Hoyer “Joe”, brother Reed McMinn, sister Neoma McMinn Rhoades and niece Nancy Rhoades Warner.

Survived by nieces, Donna Rhoades Kaiser Connolly (husband John), and Terry Jean Chiodo from Florida also many other nieces/great nieces and nephews that loved her very much.

Loretha attended Waynesburg High School and then went onto Indiana State College of Pennsylvania (now IUP) to receive a degree in business education.  She taught bookkeeping at Washington HS for 12 years then took a leave of absence to serve in the Navy from 1944-46 stationed in Washington DC and was in charge of payroll records. After the Navy she worked for Gulf Oil as an executive secretary retiring in 1971. 

She married Claude J. Hoyer “Joe” in 1979, they lived in Edgewood, Pa for most of their lives then moved to Asbury Heights a retirement community for several years. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the singing group Sweet Adeline’s and an active member of the Episcopal church in their community.

Her last years were spent at Concordia of the South Hills, we want to thank everyone there along with Good Samaritan hospice for their love, compassion, care and friendship during her final years.

Family and friends are welcome Friday, December 16^th from 10:00 – 12:00 pm WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220, where a service will be held at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Waynesburg PA.
