Age 89, of Providence Point, formerly Mt. Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 29. Leonard was born in Austin, MN on August 15, 1924 to the late Leonard and Ruth (Peck) Heisey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eugenie (Leighton) Heisey and his second wife Patricia (Kelly) Heisey. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Apold of St. Paul, MN; his children, Phyllis (Steven) Musial of Franklin Park, David Leighton Heisey of Scotch Plains, NJ, John Leonard (Denise) Heisey of Peters Twp, and Shelly (Dave) Saba of Mt. Lebanon; loving grandchildren, Megan and Sarah Musial, Leighton, Cameron, and Cooper Heisey, Brian Heisey, Sydney and Avery Saba; also nieces and nephews.
Leonard graduated from Austin High School in 1942 where he swam and was a state champion back-stroker. His state record was not broken until the 1970's. Immediately after high school, he attended Austin Community College, but then enlisted in the Army Air Corp . After World War II, he attended the University of Minnesota where he met his first wife Eugenie. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and began his career with Montgomery Ward. He moved his family to Pittsburgh in 1965, accepting a position with PPG Industries. He retired from PPG in 1988.
Leonard was the former president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. He was an avid golfer and played the Mt. Lebanon Golf Course for many years as well as Chartiers Country Club. He loved to play bridge and was considered to be an excellent duplicate bridge partner.
Leonard enjoyed attending his grandchildren's swim meets, softball, soccer, lacrosse, and hockey games. He served as an Elder at Bower Hill Community Church . He was also one of the first residents of Providence Point and was pictured in their marketing campaign.
