Kathleen “Kate” Louise McCorkle, born on October 5, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on
January 12, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Vera McCorkle. Kate graduated from Dormont High School in 1964 and continued her education, graduating from West Virginia University in social work in 1968. Her love for education continued and she earned a master's degree in early childhood education with an emphasis on learning disabilities from Duquesne University. Her career path led her from being a social worker in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, a learning disabilities teacher in New Orleans, and finally retiring from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit as the curriculum coordinator.
Kate will be remembered for her kindness to anyone in need. She was always reaching out to people who might need a place to stay while going through disappointments in their lives. She loved her friends and treated them like family. There was always food available and she loved to cook and bake. She loved to design and make jewelry and give to her friends. An avid reader, she frequently read 4 books a week and could retain information at an instant. She loved traveling and going to different countries to embrace the culture and the arts. Kate traveled to 42 countries before she passed.
She is survived by her brother, Ronald McCorkle; her niece, Gillian Shippey; and nephew, Devon McCorkle. All are welcome Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 1 PM until the time of her memorial service at 3 PM, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 412-563-2800.
