Katherine May (Gasparovich) Maietta

April 21, 1945 – April 23, 2026

A proud daughter of Croatia and a cornerstone of her family, Katherine May (Gasparovich) Maietta, 81, was reunited with her beloved husband, Pat, on April 23, 2026. For nearly 60 years, Kathy and Pat built a life defined by family, tradition, and a shared resilience that she carried with her until her very last day. She never met a book she didn't want to read, a crochet pattern she couldn't master, or a road she wasn't ready to travel.

Born in 1945, Kathy was the daughter of the late John Gasparovich and Frances Kovacic. She is survived by her son, Dominic J. Maietta and her daughter Stephanie Maietta Romero, (husband, Guillermo Romero). She was the adoring grandmother of Isabella Pircio Luvaas (husband, Deric Luvaas), and she found a special, renewed joy in her great-grandson, Gianluca Luvaas. She is also survived by her sister, Jeannette Patsakis, and her brother, Andy Kovacic, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her spirit and her strength.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of care and a lifelong passion for learning. Kathy will be forever remembered for her sharp intellect, delicious cooking, and a spirited heart that was simply never content to sit still.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at The Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills (SunnyHill) in Mt. Lebanon at noon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kathy’s name to Awaken Pittsburgh (www.awakenpittsburgh.org/donate).
